NATCHITOCHES – Freshman Tyler Smith, a 2016 Covington High graduate, is making the most of his freshman year playing for the Northwestern State Demons in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Tyler, a four-year letterman for coach Jeff Dragg, was named to the 18U WWBA All-Tournament Team while playing for the Louisiana Knights organization.
As a senior, he batted .350 with four doubles, one home run and 12 RBIs and in his junior season, he batted .304 with seven doubles, two home runs and had 26 RBIs.
Smith’s sophomore season saw him hit .341 with four doubles and a career-best three home runs with 26 RBIs on the District 6-5A co-championship team.
As a freshman, batted .337 with five doubles, one home run and 23 RBIs as Covington shared the district title and reached the regional round of the state playoffs.
His 2017 numbers see him starting in 34 games with 123 at-bats. He has scored 15 runs on 26 hits with 13 RBI’s and has walked 13 times.
He has four doubles, one triple and two home runs and is hitting at a .211 clip.
Tyler is the son of Becky and Ben Smith and has one brother, Zachary,
He is majoring in general studies.
