Durward L. Kennedy, Sr. passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014, in Slidell.
He was 89 years old.
He was born on August 27, 1924, in Saint Amant, La. to the late Zennie and Hazel Bicknel Kennedy.
Durward married his wife of 50 years, the late Dixie Brown Kennedy; and together they had five children, Rhonda K. Fredenburg (Lee), Jane K. Amond (Rob), Matthew Kennedy (Kelli), the late Durward Kennedy Jr. (Cheryl), and Pam K. Meyers (Hilton).
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Durward was the brother of the late Benny Kennedy and Ruth Willie.
Durward worked as a master mechanic for Exxon Chemical. He served as a member of the Free Mason Covington Lodge No. 188 for over 25 years. He was an active and involved member of Live Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Folsom, La. After leaving professional life, Durward retired to his farm to enjoy raising cattle and other livestock.
Funeral services were held on July 1 at Live Oak Missionary Baptist Church, 78273 Hwy 1077, Folsom, La.

Scott L. Matson passed away on Sunday morning, June 22, 2014 at University Hospital, New Orleans.
He was the son of Larry Matson and Kathy Reuther and step-son of Charlie Reuther; grandson of Eva Brown and the late Malcolm Brown; and brother of Kristen Waguespack and Daniel Matson.
He is survived by four cousins, Matthew, Jeffrey, Tyler and Andrew and also two nieces and two nephews.
A memorial service was held at Serenity Funeral Home, 20419 Hwy. 36, Covington, on June 26.
Ernest “EJ” J. Oalmann, of Bush, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.
He was 65 years old.
He was born Saturday, March 12, 1949, in Bogalusa, LA to Herbert L. Oalmann Sr. and Darline Oalmann.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Casadaban Oalmann; daughters, Melissa Oalmann DeLeon and Julie Oalmann Campell; brothers, Sidney W. Oalmann and Paul R. Oalmann; sisters, Linda O. Hollard, Patricia O. Hamilton, Judy O. Adams, and Trina O. Fauntleroy; and three grandchildren, Trey, Kesli and Cameron.
He was predeceased by his father, Herbert L. Oalmann Sr.; mother, Darline Oalmann; sister, Peggy O. Reese; and brother, Alan J. Oalmann.
A funeral service was held on June 30 at at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue Covington.

Howard Augustus Pence passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2014.
He was the husband of almost 60 years to the late Julia Swenson Pence.
Born and raised in Texas, Pence worked until his retirement for Gulf/Chevron Oil Co. His work took him to places as far as Nigeria, finally living for his remaining years in New Orleans and Covington. Wherever he found himself, he was always active in the local Baptist church.
He is survived by a sister, Verna Pence Levins; daughter and son and their spouses, Drs. Laura Pence Hogue and Charlie, and Jay and Julie Pence; grandchildren, Stephen, Amanda and Katie Hogue and Emily Hogue Holladay, and Tyler and Kevin Pence, and Dr. Leslie Pence Samardzija.
Funeral services were held on June 30 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington.

Ernest Lee Landers, gently passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014, surrounded by his family.
Born on December 12, 1934, in Lamar County, Texas, he was one of three children born to Ernest Cecil and Minnie Lee Newsome Landers. His mother passed away shortly after his birth. He was raised by his father and step-mother, Christine Hickey Cotton Landers.
He met the love of his life, Sandra Sue Murphy, at The Second Baptist Church of Jacinto City. They were married on the second day of June, 1956. Of their union, four daughters were born, Sabrina Landers Goodlett and husband Allen, Karen Landers Draffen and husband David (deceased), Cynthia Landers Widlitze and husband John, and Sheran Landers Benton and husband Steve.
He moved his family to Metairie, La. in 1963 to pursue his career with Kohler and develop a lifelong fanship of the New Orleans Saints.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years; brother Edgar Cotton; sisters, Dorothy Jo Krause and Daena Landers Stafford; daughters; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandaughters.
He was preceded in death by his father; mother; step-mother; sisters, Dorothy Rene Landers Anderson and June Cotton; and brothers, Byrl T. Landers, Jerry L. Landers and Ronald Landers.
