Hilda Joyce Magee passed away on Sunday, July 6 at Christwood Retirement Community in Covington after a courageous five-month battle with cancer.
She was 87 years old.
Born in Hammond, Louisiana, she was valedictorian of her Hammond High School graduating class before earning a degree from Southeastern Louisiana University, and working part-time in medical administration while being a full time mom.
She and her family lived in Franklinton and Baton Rouge before moving to Mandeville in 2002.
Magee was a founding member of the Pierre de Mandeville chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a regular at Christwood’s Bible study classes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Covington.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ellis C. Magee; daughter and son-in-law, Janet Fabre Smith and Larry Smith; daughters, Melanie Dixon and Marsha O’Brien; and son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sherryl Magee. She was also the grandmother to Alicia Magee and Victoria and Grace Dixon, and was preceded in death by her parents, Dolly and Clinton Randall of Hammond, La.
A memorial service was held at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, Covington, on July 12.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christwood Support Foundation (100 Christwood Blvd, Covington, 70433) or Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Tammany Parish Hospital (1203 S. Tyler St., Covington, 70433).

Eleanor Woodward Westfeldt passed away peacefully at her home in the Christwood community on Monday, June 30, 2014.
She was 88 years old.
Westfeldt was the daughter of Carl Ellsworth Woodward and Mollie Holland Woodward.
She was a graduate of Isidore Newman School and attended Newcomb College. Westfeldt served as a nurse’s aide at Charity Hospital during World War II. She was a member of the Junior League of New Orleans, the New Orleans Country Club, Garden Study Club of New Orleans, the Biltmore Forest Country Club in Asheville, NC, and the French Broad River Garden Club in Asheville.
She is survived by her daughter, Mollie Wynn Lowe; son, William Baker Wynn Jr. and his wife, Virginia Shelley Wynn, all of Charlotte, NC; and four grandchildren, Walker Woodward Lowe and his wife, Iveth, Michael Ellsworth Lowe, William Myles Wynn and his wife, Grace, and Shelley Woodward Wynn.
She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Mollie Lowe and Walker Lowe Jr.
Her husbands, George G. Westfeldt Jr. and Hendrik VanVoorthuysen; and her granddaughter, Mollie Holland Lowe, preceded her in death.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Chapel, 1516 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 21.
The reception will be announced at the chapel and will follow the service. Interment will be private.

Myrta Pace Hebert, of Dayton, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, July 07, 2014, at Rhea Medical Center in Dayton, Tenn.
She was 96 years old.
She was born to Luther Pace and Beulah Pace.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Hebert Jahncke, and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her father, Luther Pace; mother, Beulah Pace; husband, Barton B. Hebert Sr.; son, Barton B. Hebert Jr.; and sister, Bea Schexnayder.
Hebert was a longtime resident of Covington and former owner of Hebert’s Cleaners.
A funeral Mass was held on July 10 at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, Covington.

Rodney Joseph Baham Jr., a retired carpenter, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014.
He was 76 years old.
He was the husband of Sylvia Houlemard Baham; father of Alonzo Baham Sr. (Kathy), Angela Baham, Karen Domingue (Michael), Kevin Baham (Karen), Alisa Faciane (Merrill, Sr.), Carl Baham (Desiree), Jon Baham (Jo Ann) and Joey Baham (Karen); son of the late Celina Heisser Baham and Rodney Joseph Baham Sr.; and brother of Lydia Baham, Milfred Baham, Myrna Cousin, Jocelyn Blanc, Juliette Simms, Felix Baham Sr. and Jeffery Baham.
She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Baham was a native and lifelong resident of Madisonville where he was a member of the Smoking Guns Hunting Club, an honorary member of the Rackman Hunting Club and a parishioner of St. Anselm Catholic Church where he was a former lector.
A funeral Mass was held on July 9 at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary St., Madisonville.

Keith Michael Cavaretta passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
He was 53 years old.
He was the son of Geraldine Chenier Cavaretta and the late Angelo Stephen Cavaretta Jr.; and brother of Kevin Cavaretta (Cindy), Angela Wilson (Michael), Karl Cavaretta, and Gina Bounds (Mike).
He is the grandson of the late Angelo and Ethel Cavaretta and Antoine and Celie Chenier. He is also survived by his loving best friend, Barbara Ann Cavaretta.
Cavaretta was a native of Folsom and a resident of Madisonville and a 1979 graduate of Covington High School. He was a former employee of Visko’s Restaurant in Gretna and in Jax Brewery, and at Morton’s Seafood in Madisonville.
A funeral Mass was held on July 8 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, Covington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Keith to be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Sibyl “Pibbie” Vander Weel passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in Mandeville.
She was 94 years old.
She was born in Antelope, Texas to the late John and Lucille Thomas Barrick.
Weel married the late Jack J. Vander Weel on January 31, 1942, and together they had two children, Rick Vander Weel (Dianne) and Jackie V. May (Fred).
She is survived by her two great-grandchildren, Parker and Grayson.
She was the sister of Johnnie Beimel and the late Anna Lois Hill. She is also survived by two nieces, Carol Fejes and Lori Perry.
Weel was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, July 5 at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Rd, Hurst, Texas.
