MANDEVILLE – A drunk driver sideswiped a parked Mandeville Police Department vehicle in the 1500 block of Lakeshore Drive, according to the MPD.
Michael DeGavage, 26, was booked with driving while intoxicated and careless operation.
An MPD officer stopped behind an illegally-parked vehicle on Lakeshore Drive at around 1 a.m. on June 1. As the officer was speaking to the vehicle’s occupants, a vehicle driven by DeGavage approached him on the eastbound lane, according to the police report. DeGavage made no attempts to move away from the police vehicle, which had its overhead emergency lights activated, the MPD stated.
The vehicle driven by DeGavage, a 2006 Volvo XC9 SUV, struck the police vehicle’s side mirror and the rear quarter panel, then continued eastbound, according to the police report. The officer was able to stop DeGavage in the 100 block of Jackson Avenue, and then gave him a sobriety test, which DeGavage failed, according to the MPD.
DeGavage was placed in the Parish Jail.
No injuries were recorded, damage to the vehicles was minor, and all indications are that the impact was a result of DeGavage’s intoxication and nothing else, the police report stated.
