SLIDELL – Slidell is preparing for the 1st annual Camellia City Smooth Jazz Festival that is expected to draw several thousand people here for the October 6-8 weekend of music, golf and extra special party activities.
The event will begin with a celebrity golf tournament on Friday, Oct. 6 at Beau Chene in Mandeville with top-name professional football players like Dan Marino, Ronnie Lott, Warren Sapp, Rickey Jackson and more.
After a grand opening Friday night at Patton’s in Slidell with musicians and sports celebrities on hand, the big event is on Saturday, Oct. 7 on the grounds of the Northshore Harbor Center where Grammy winning smooth jazz musicians and singers will converge with 11 acts. The music begins at 11 a.m. and goes into the night. VIP tickets in front of the stage are $100 each, with reserved seats behind the front tables going for $75 each. General admission tickets are $50 each.
On Sunday at 11 a.m. inside the Northshore Harbor Center will be a final wrap-up event with a jazz brunch, featuring regional performers joining the star-studded list of musicians from their Saturday performances. Tickets for that event are $60 each.

The featured musicians coming to the North Shore for this big event include Grammy nominated performers and Grammy winning performers who have played with most of the top name bands and musicians in the music industry. This week’s featured artist who will be on stage at the Smooth City Jazz Festival is Chili Minucci.
Minucci is the leader of the Grammy-nominated contemporary jazz group Special EFX, which formed in 1982. Minucci and Special EFX have recorded a combined 26 CDs, eight of those being solo releases.
Minucci has recorded and performed with top pop artists such as Celine Dion, Lionel Richie, Jennifer Lopez, Jewel, Mark Anthony, Jessica Simpson, and others. He has done the same with jazz artists Marion Meadows, Jay Beckenstein, Gerald Veasley, Lao Tizer, Nestor Torez, Bob Baldwin, Jeff Lorber, and many others.
Minucci composed and produced the soundtrack for the Live Nation/Nickelodeon live stage productions of the hit TV series, “Dora the Explorer.”He also wrote and recorded songs for the live stage production of the long-running British children’s television show, “Thomas & Friends Live! – Thomas Saves the Day!”
