COVINGTON – Hannan’s Caroline Standley of Archbishop Hannan won the Class 2A state championship in the javelin on Friday at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA State Track and Field Meet at Bernie Moore Stadium.
The junior set a state record in the process with her throw of 134 feet, 8 inches.
She eclipsed the previous class record of 132-7 set in 2010 by Kinder’s Alexus Lavan.
Standley, who has thrown the javelin since her freshman year, surpassed her personal best by almost 10 feet.
“She puts in the time,” said Hannan coach John McCoy. “She works hard and has all the talent in the world and it all came together for her today.”
McCoy believs Standley is the school’s first state champion in track and field.
