HAHNVILLE — The Lady Tigers of Hahnville scored early and often in their second-round, Class 5A playoff game against Fontainebleau.
As a result, Hannville will be making a trip to Sulphur to battle in the quarterfinals round of the playoffs.
The Lady Tigers exploded for six runs in the bottom of the first inning and they tacked on eight more in the bottom of the second to take a commanding 14-0 lead. By the end of the contest, Hahnville was able to walk off with a 14-3 victory in a game that was shortened to five innings via the mercy rule.
Fontainebleau, which defeated Ponchatoula, 7-3, in its Class 5A postseason opener, collected six hits during the contest against Hahnville.
Brenae Bergeron was the top threat at the plate for the Lady Bulldogs with three hits in three at-bats while teammate Chantal Schurr recorded one hit and she also drove in one run for Fontainebleau.
The Lady Tigers, meanwhile, collected 13 hits during the game, and they were paced by Pryscilla Prince, who tallied three hits, scored two runs and added two RBI. Allison Plaisance chipped in two hits for Hahnville and she drove in three runs to help the winning cause.
The Lady Tigers, who are the eighth-seeded in the Class 5A tournament, will now face top-seeded Alexandria in the quarterfinals round of the tournament.
Fontainebleau sees its season come to an end with an impressive 20-6 record, and it earned the ninth seed overall in the Class 5A event.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed Hahnville, 14-0, until the top of the fourth inning, during which they sent two runs across the plate.
