LAKE CHARLES — A big hit in the bottom of the first inning proved to be the difference for Sam Houston in its playoff game against Mandeville.
With two runners on base, Sam Houston’s Casidy Chaumont belted a three-run home run, and that proved to be the difference in the contest.
The Lady Skippers tacked on a run later in the game, but it wasn’t enough as the local squad went down in defeat, 3-1.
The Lady Skippers, seeded 12th in the Class 5A tournament, posted an impressive 12-2 victory over Comeaux in their postseason opener to advance to the second-round contest against Sam Houston.
The Lady Broncos of Sam Houston, meanwhile, advance to Sulphur after picking up the victory over the Lady Skippers.
In the state quarterfinals, the Lady Broncos, seeded No. 5 in the tournament, will have a battle with fourth-seeded Central on April 28.
The Lady Skippers, who entered the second-round battle with a seven-game winning streak, close out their season with a 25-6 record.
The Lady Broncos, meanwhile, are on quite an impressive run of their own. Sam Houston will enter its quarterfinals contest against Central having been victorious in 12 of its past 14 contests.
